Butterscotch Souffle

When I was about 13, an cool, elegant 15 year old shared with me her dream: to bathe by candlelight in a tub of sparkling champagne, amongst floating rose petals. I immediately contrasted her dream with my own, which was to dive and swim in a pool of butterscotch pudding. Though I suppose it's not literally a pool of custard, here's a collection of images that makes me swoon.

Karen Alexander 1989

I suppose I'll just have to get my own scanner and post some of my own. That said, even the images from my personal files are looking dated- flashy jewelry and huge hair. I guess datedness is inevitable for pictures from 20 years ago.

I wonder where Ms. Alexander is now. I guess we could start asking that about most of those gals from that era...

Proenza Schoeler Boys

What's ironic here is that these two are quite talented fashion designers. I will post pictures from their ready-to-wear collections soon, but right now, I'm just focussed on...them. Barely in their mid-twenties, these two have really wowed New York's fashion scene. And... I think they're personally really sweet and funny! My husband (who finds them quite captivating, as well) says they're the only fashion people he's seen who even look human. Ahh, if only more humans looked like them.... What beautiful sweethearts.

I REALLY wish I had more interesting images of them. These are a little straightforward, but will have to do for now.

Forgive Me

If you've seen my other blog, Teardrop Souffle, you might have seen this picture of the great ballet dancer Nureyev. So, please forgive me for repeating myself, but he really belongs here. I'm sure you'll agree.

Tribute to the Many Paradoxes of Ms. Faithfull

I can go on and on about Marianne Faithfull, and probably will in the future. Here are some pictures that illustrate the many paradoxes in her face.

First, here she is smiling. This is what I mean about her having the saddest eyes and yet the sweetest (almost goofy!) smile:

I think I detect an overbite!!!! (swoon)

I think for a lot of people (not me so much) the other big paradox about her had to do with a sense of a sweet, angelic purity. She was an aristocract, even- the daughter of a baroness and a spy, who eventually became a heroin addict.

Actually she's far more multi-faceted than just that little good girl/ bad girl cliche right there, but I"ll need to locate her autobiography to best describe it to you.

She had real nice style and fashion.
Image-Marianne-Faithfull

Mick pursued her for months, and she tested him. For example, she demanded that he tell her (something like) who was the 5th knight at Arthur's round table! He had to prove to her his other knowledge from the romantic medieval literature that she was obsessed with, (and he actually passed the tests with ease) before she allowed him to, well, let him sit at HER table.

But I think mainly, she was really sad.

Oh, the Pathos!

beautiful marianne faithfull

I reallllly love this image. I'm not much of a tee shirt person, but I think with manipulation it could make a wonderful tee shirt. I think that Marianne Faithfull is a real great beauty. Her entire face is just sheer pathos and paradox. The effect is just mesmerizing to me. I'll do more on her soon, post pictures that show what I mean. She's a character I really enjoy so much- her autobiography was one of the funnest books I've ever read. And I just watched a documentary on her last night! Oh, the heartbreak, the glamour, my God!

Esther de Jong

This is Esther de Jong, one of my favorite models of all time. I particularly love the line of her nose.

jong prada

This was part of a Prada campaign she did several years ago- I'd say 1998 or so. I wish I still had a certain image from the same campaign that showed her a little more clearly. I had it on my wall for a while. Maybe I can still find it in my print files...

What a sweet picture!

Beautiful Overbite

Gene Tierney

One of my favorite all time facial features is an overbite. I actually can wax romantic on this feature for quite some time. But I'll just say here that the feature almost always adds a gentleness and humility to the face. Gene Tierney's overbite is partly what made her so special. And red lipstick, too- it's almost too lovely!

Zhang Ziyi

This is the movie star Zhang Ziyi when she was a little girl. Wow!

Plain Clothes

I love the plainness of this. (Though I guess it's not that plain, as the skirt is velvet...) The ensemble is by Tess Giberson.

Ahh, Mr. Depp...

What exquisite nostrils you have!

These are from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I think it is one of the most gorgeous films ever. I should rent it just to watch again, no need for audio! I am reminded of Dr. Zhivago- that's another to investigate!

is lizzie a 10 year old girl?

My husband says I'm a twelve year old girl (even though I'm 34). I don't know why he'd say that.

Lizzie's Sims (not really)

I just rediscovered my portfolio of favorite items from an international antique website called 1st Dibs. I was excited to find my collection was still there, though awhile back I accidentally deleted my favorite table (made of loops!)
