I can go on and on about Marianne Faithfull, and probably will in the future. Here are some pictures that illustrate the many paradoxes in her face.
First, here she is smiling. This is what I mean about her having the saddest eyes and yet the sweetest (almost goofy!) smile:

I think I detect an overbite!!!! (swoon)

I think for a lot of people (not me so much) the other big paradox about her had to do with a sense of a sweet, angelic purity. She was an aristocract, even- the daughter of a baroness and a spy, who eventually became a heroin addict.

Actually she's far more multi-faceted than just that little good girl/ bad girl cliche right there, but I"ll need to locate her autobiography to best describe it to you.
She had real nice style and fashion.

Mick pursued her for months, and she tested him. For example, she demanded that he tell her (something like) who was the 5th knight at Arthur's round table! He had to prove to her his other knowledge from the romantic medieval literature that she was obsessed with, (and he actually passed the tests with ease) before she allowed him to, well, let him sit at HER table.

But I think mainly, she was really sad.
